Ravenswood Media has produced natural history and social documentaries for over twenty years. Located in Chicago, we have won numerous awards for our programs, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short Subject for the film "Mark of the Maker".
Recently, Ravenswood Media has joined the digital video revolution and pioneered a new Internet genre called the webumentary. The webumentary conforms the documentary format into an online non-linear program by posting streaming digital video on the web. Webumentaries can be adapted for a vast array of online educational and instructional purposes. Our programs are reaching over 100,000 visitors per year.
Our nature, wildlife, environmental and science video productions have placed Ravenswood Media at the forefront of the natural history documentary. Our crews are small and can react quickly to the vagaries of nature filming.
Ravenswood Media has high production standards as well as a deep commitment to our clients' needs. Give us a call to find out how we can bring your message to a global audience.
Preventing a Hostile Takeover was produced for the International Joint Commission and the Great Lakes Fishery
Commission. This short program advocates the building of an electrical barrier in the canal between the Mississippi River basin and the Great Lakes, with the purpose of preventing the introduction of Asian Carp into the Great Lakes environment.
Return of the King is a proposal for a one hour television documentary on the reintroduction of native fishes in the Great Lakes. The program will focus on the current efforts to rehabilitate the lake sturgeon population and its impact on the future of the Great Lakes. Ravenswood Media is seeking funds for this important documentary and welcomes inquiries from interested parties.
El Capitan The documentary follows Jacek Czyz, a world-renowned climber, as he pushes a new route up the face of El Capitan. Principal photography has been completed. Director Jacek Lupina parallels Czyz' dedication to climbing with his job as a fine carpenter living in Chicago's vibrant Polish community.
Frogs Everyone's familiar with the call of a frog, the croak of a bullfrog or the chirp of the spring peeper, but we're only recently discovering what they're saying. This documentary is a journey into animal communication. Check out our website at: www.midwestfrogs.com
Inventions and Invasions The zebra mussel has cost the Great Lakes region billions of dollars and has threatened native species with extinction. This program chronicles how an ecological disaster brought disparate groups together to battle future invasions with innovative ballast technology. The documentary demonstrates how ballast works and how it is a vector for the spread of exotic species and pathogens. The solutions found for preventing future ballast infestations in the Great Lakes have been adopted to prevent infestations in ports around the world.
Understanding Biodiversity follows a team of scientists into the Venezuelan rainforest as they search for clues to explain the evolutionary forces that produced the region's incredible diversity of birds and fishes. The expedition, a collaboration between the Field Museum and the University of Caracas, travels by dugout through the roadless regions of the Orinoco Basin, eventually reaching Angel Falls. This remote area is dotted with huge mesas towering thousands of feet above the forest; these mesas are some of the oldest geological features on the face of the Earth. Spectacular aerial and underwater photography captures the beauty of this incredible region.
Winner of a MUSE award from the American Association of Museums.
